What Catalog & Items Does

  1. Catalog is where you build and maintain everything you sell — items, their prices, how they're organized, and the units they're sold or stocked in. It's the foundation the rest of the system relies on: when a field sales rep opens the van sales app, or a customer's order is rung up on a register, the item name, price, tax, and unit information all come from here.
  2. It's made up of three connected screens, all under the Items section of the sidebar:
    • Items (/catalog/items) — the master list of everything you sell: name, price, cost, classification, tax, and units.
    • Attributes (/attributes) — the shared building blocks used to classify and price items: Brands, Categories, Subcategories, Departments, Styles, Sizes, Colors, Taxes, and Discounts.
    • Units of Measure (/catalog/units) — the tenant-wide list of units (EACH, CASE, KG, etc.) that items are stocked and sold in.
  3. Set up Attributes and Units first. An item's form pulls its Department/Category/Brand/ Tax/Discount/Unit choices from these lists, so having them ready before you start adding items makes the process faster and keeps your catalog consistent from day one.
