FAQ and Tips
- Why can't I change an item's Item ID or a unit's Code after creating it? Both are used as stable identifiers referenced elsewhere in the system (orders, inventory, sync), so they're locked after creation to avoid breaking those references. If you need a different ID, create a new item/unit instead.
- Why is a tax rate showing as "8.25%" and not "825%"? Tax rates are stored and entered as
plain percentages, not fractions — enter
8.25to mean 8.25%, not0.0825. - What's the difference between "Inactive" and "Archived" for an item? Inactive hides the item from customers but keeps it easily reactivatable; Archived is meant for historical reference (e.g. discontinued items) — both stop the item from being sold, but "Archived" signals it's not coming back.
- I deleted an item/unit by mistake — can I get it back? No. Item deletion is permanent. Units that are in use can't be deleted at all (you'll see a message telling you to deactivate instead), which is the system's main safety net for units — there is no equivalent recovery for items, so double-check before confirming.
- Do I need to set up Units of Measure before adding items? Not strictly — you can save an item without a base unit — but you won't be able to pick a base unit on the item form until at least one active unit exists, so it's worth setting up your common units (EACH, CASE, KG, etc.) first.
- Where do the Department/Category/Brand/Tax/Discount dropdowns on the item form come from? All from the Attributes screen. If a dropdown looks empty, go create the corresponding attribute first.
- "Show me how" links: the Items, Attributes, and Units of Measure screens each have a "Show me how" link near the top that replays a short guided walkthrough of that screen at any time.
