Paying Commission Out

Once a run is approved, the commission sits on your books as money owed to staff. Recording the payment clears that debt and takes the money out of cash or bank.

Steps

  1. Open the approved run from Sales → Commission Settlements.
  2. Choose Cash or Bank on the toggle in the top right — this decides which account the money comes out of.
  3. Click Pay (the button carries the outstanding amount, e.g. "Pay 12,450.00").
  4. The Payouts tab lists every payment made against the run, with its date, method and how many people it covered.

Each person's row on the People tab moves to PAID — or PARTIALLY PAID if only part of what they're owed has gone out.

What it does to your books

  • On approval: commission expense goes up, and so does what you owe staff.
  • On payment: what you owe staff goes down, and your cash or bank balance goes down with it.

Both entries are made for you. Nothing here needs a manual journal entry, and neither entry can be edited afterwards — a correction is always a new entry, so your books keep a full trail.

A correction after you've paid

If a return comes in for a sale that has already been settled and paid, don't reopen the old month. It appears as a negative line on the next run for that person, and the amount comes off what they're paid then.

This is deliberate: a period you have closed and paid stays exactly as it was, and the correction is visible as its own line rather than a silent edit to history.

Paying part of a run

Recording a payment settles every unpaid line in full by default. If you need to pay some people now and others later, pay the run once the people you want to hold back have been dealt with — the Outstanding figure at the top always tells you what is still owed on the run.
